Tour de Fishspot revisited

Imagine having an entire month to simply fish… how would you plan it out? Here we provide a bit of inspiration within Fishspots’ hottest areas.

If you are still looking for inspiration for your fishing trips this summer, have a look at our Tour de Fishspot, a suggested itinerary for fly fishing bums with a month of Norwegian summer-time to spare, and tips about alternative fishing in case the season proceeds in unusual ways (as it usually does.)

will you go on tour this summer?

The season is coming along in its own peculiar way and most of Fishspot country is prepped and ready for all kinds of fishy action. It's time to start planning and get going.

The suggested "tour" we launched on Fishspot four years ago takes you through some of the finest fly fishing areas in Scandinavia – and it’s well worth revisiting. Use the route as inspiration to explore your own paths. Do your research. Check the weather forecast. Many great trips with rising trout and stunning scenery await you. Remix the tour.

If you’re starting from the Oslo area, Renaelva is a natural first stop before heading north to Sømåkvolvet and the trout-rich waters of Femund-Engerdal. The journey continues with a stop in Dalsbygda and the trout river Vangrøfta, before we head into Femundsmarka National Park in search of Arctic char. Next, we aim for strong hatches of the large mayfly Ephemera danica in Engeråa.

The second leg of the tour takes us to…

The sixth stage leads to the picturesque and clear river Grimsa, which originates in Rondane National Park. We then explore the legendary grayling fishing at Kvennan Fly Fishing.

After Kvennan, we return to Femund-Engerdal to follow in the footsteps of English fly fishing pioneers and visit classic spots like Isterfossen, Galtstrømmen, and Galthodet.

We end the tour where we began – in Rena – with large rising trout on the menu.

So many rivers, so little time ... Norway still has a lot to offer for those who want to explore.

You can go your own way

You however, should do as you please and ignore the order of this tour. Especially this year, since spring and summer happened almost simultaneously from Oslo to Røros.  The 2025-season was several places before  before it formally started. Luckily the temps have been good for fish and wader clad life-forms.

Keep your eyes on the water and check back here for more tips and inspiration for finding the best fly fishing locations Norway has to offer. Enjoy your tour and enjoy our rivers, lakes and wilderness.

Tight lines.
