Folla – Fly Fishing in Crystal Clear Water
Folla is a water-rich and varied river offering magnificent nature experiences and excellent fishing opportunities. With abundant insect life, clear water, and strong populations of grayling and brown trout, it is an attractive destination for fly fishers seeking both quality and challenge.
Folla’s catchment area is extensive, ensuring a stable and water-rich river throughout the season. Along the six-mile stretch from the headwaters at Hegglingen on Dovre, the river holds healthy stocks of both grayling and brown trout. The crystal-clear water and rich insect life make conditions especially appealing for fly fishing.
In its lower sections, the river has carved deeply into glacial deposits and bedrock, and several stretches run through a narrow and dramatic V-shaped valley. These areas are classic grayling waters with plenty of fine fish. The fish population is dominated by trout and grayling, but bullhead, burbot, and minnows are also found throughout the river system.
The Folla fly fishing zones have recently been established and offer excellent opportunities to catch grayling and trout of good size. The zones are easily accessible from roads and trails along the river. The landscape provides variation between gentle riffles, attractive pools, and slow-flowing sections – ideal for precise and technical fly fishing.
With a fishing permit for the Folla fly fishing zones, you may also fish in other parts of the Glåma and Folla within Alvdal municipality.
