Timing Your 2026 Trip

In the main river, water levels typically stabilize by mid-summer. While fish can certainly be caught earlier, late June through early July often marks the beginning of more predictable conditions.

Of course, nature doesn’t follow calendars. Heavy rain can still change plans overnight. But the upper Glomma region offers flexibility. Nearby lakes and tributaries — including the Hodalen Lakes — provide excellent alternatives when the main river runs high.

The diversity of the area means one thing: serious anglers will almost always find fishable water.

The stretch of Glomma from Alvdal to Os and Erlia is a staggering 95 kilometers of prime grayling water. This river is tailor-made for anglers looking to master nymphing techniques or explore diverse fishing conditions.

The grayling population in Glomma, and particularly at the Kvennan stretch of the river, is probably the best in Norway. When the average size is around 40 cm, it goes without saying that you are in for some fantastic fishing.

Folla – Fly Fishing in Crystal Clear Water

Folla is a water-rich and varied river offering magnificent nature experiences and excellent fishing opportunities. With abundant insect life, clear water, and strong populations of grayling and brown trout, it is an attractive destination for fly fishers seeking both quality and challenge.

Fishing in the Glåma and Folla Rivers in Alvdal

Fishing in the Glåma and Folla rivers within Alvdal municipality, as well as in the Sølna River downstream of the Sølndammen dam, offers many miles of varied and exciting river fishing. The area is known for its healthy stocks of grayling and trout, providing both local and visiting anglers with wonderful nature experiences in peaceful and scenic surroundings.

Brya – The River of Visible Big Trout

Brya is a small, meandering river that flows north–south through the village of Brydalen before emptying into Finstadsjøen. The river winds peacefully through an open valley landscape, with farmland and forested hillsides on both sides. Its light-colored riverbed and gentle current give Brya a distinctive character – both scenically and in terms of fishing.

The ­River ­Vangrøfta

The River Vangrøfta is a perfect river for those fly fishers that like to hunt for wild trophy brown trout. This river has a limited number of licenses available each day.

Grimsa ­Fly ­Fishing

The fly fishing zone of Grimsa and part of Folla is about 18 km long, and offers a good variety of rapids and quiet water. It`s easy accessible and holds both big trout and big grayling. A very scenic river with mountain ranges and beautiful forest as a backdrop.
